| 描述: | Sound opacity (third example on sound transparency and opacity) This sound sample is a companion to my talk and paper presented at FOTEO ("Faire oeuvre, transparence et opacité") at Université Laval, Visual Art Department, May 2008. The paper title is: "Transparence sonore : acoustique physique; opacité sonore : un phénomène psychoacoustique; implications en création sonore". This last example present the illusion of continuity in the auditory domain. A modulated tone is presented with silent. A mask (noise) is also presented with silence. The alternations of the test tone and the mask create the continuity illusion: the tone seems to be continuous, even if he is not present along the mask. The continuity illusion is a way to identify that masking (sound opacity) operates. In the last part of the example, it is possible to appreciate the fact that sound spatialisation (the tone and the mask are presented on different loudspeakers) reduces the continuity illusion. Therefore, sound spatialisation (as for loudspeaker concerts, acousmonium, etc.) reduces the masking and sound opacity. That is: sound spatialisation using multichannel system (as in sound art or electroacoustic music) involves a reduction of sound opacity (as defined in my talk) and a gain of clarity (sound transparency, as defined in my talk). |
