描述: | Sound transformation, Assignment 8 of ASPMA online course (Coursera), session 2014 (UPF Barcelona, CCRMA Stanford). Tool used : smstools transformations GUI (https://github.com/MTG/smstools)Model used: HPS harmonic plus stochastic modelOriginal sound: http://freesound.org/people/digifishmusic/sounds/40620/ The goal of this ASPMA assignment was to show our creativity, so I looked for an original sound that would allow a great deal of transformations. This sound had to be natural and harmonic as well as having a residual that would allow a meaningful stochastic representation. On top of that, I wanted this sound to be simple and long enough so it would allow a lot of space for crazy experimentations. That's why I chose to use a 6 seconds long simple vocal melody with just a few sustained notes sung by a female singer (Freesound URL above). Then my goal was to go as wild as possible to push the HpS model and at the same time get to know its transformation potential better, especially experimenting a lot with multipoints timevarying envelopes to create a complex structured evolving soundscape. This was obviously the perfect time to disable timbre preservation and try some frequency shifting, on top of extreme frequency and time scaling. So starting with a quite classic vocal melody, I ended up with something radically different that sounds like a mix between a siren, a mosquito and an helicopter approaching – an helicopter which actually turns out to be a UFO HpS analysis parameters : Window BlackmanM 1101N 2048t 100minSineDur 0.1nH 100minf0 250maxf0 600f0et 7harmDevSlope 0.01 stocf 0.1 Transformation parameters : Frequency scaling factors : Frequency stretching factors : Timbre preservation : 0 (disabled)Time scaling factors : |
